We are seeking the support of Head teachers and Designated Safeguarding Leads (DSLs) to help us measure the effectiveness of Operation Encompass: a police and education partnership initiative for the purpose of supporting children and young people exposed to domestic abuse.
As many of you will know already, Operation Encompass involves “the reporting to schools before the start of the next school day when a child or young person has been involved in or exposed to a domestic abuse incident.”
It was introduced in the Hampshire Constabulary force area in September 2017 with a specific police email address for the secure delivery of domestic abuse information to schools.
For context, prior to September 2017, local authorities led on deciding the time and format for information to be shared with a school about a child becoming involved in or exposed to domestic abuse.
The management of Operation Encompass involves professionals within Hampshire Constabulary’s Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hubs (MASH). There are three hubs in our force area, one each for the cities of Portsmouth and Southampton, and one covering the remaining Hampshire and Isle of Wight local authority areas.
How you can help
We are asking for the opinions of both Head teachers and Designated Safeguarding Leads (DSLs), responding individually via an online survey aimed to help us improve our service to schools through Operation Encompass.
The short survey can be accessed directly via the link button below.
If you have any queries about this survey, please contact Hampshire Constabulary via our Operation Encompass mailbox: firstname.lastname@example.org
