Looking for new ways to deliver RSE education for 11-14yrs?

By October 4, 2018 October 22nd, 2018 Sex & Relationships

Childnet are inviting Hampshire secondary schools to get involved in piloting resources to support RSE education specific to:

  • Online Pornography
  • Healthy Relationships Online
  • Online Body Image

More about the Myth vs Reality Pilot and Resources…

Myth vs Reality is phase 2 of Childnet’s practical PSHE toolkit which aims to generate discussions amongst KS3 pupils about their experiences online.

From focus groups conducted across the UK, young people expressed the need for education about the portrayal of gender, bodies and relationships online with a particular need for education about the reality of online pornography stating that “the less educated young people are about sex & relationships, the more they are going to try and look for it.”

The 2nd instalment toolkit will cover the topics of Online Pornography, Healthy Relationships Online and Online Body Image. Each topic comes with a unique set of films, which were developed directly with young people across the UK. These films are to be used as a spring board for discussion about the key myths young people are experiencing online, allowing them to discover their own truth and develop strategies for coping with online pressure.

What are participating schools required to do?

Childnet need to pilot the lesson plans and films in different types of schools across the UK, valuing first-hand feedback from teachers and pupils about the ease of use, lesson progression and the pitch to ensure the resource will be effective and of value once launched.

Task Trial at least 1 lesson plan and accompanying films which will be preselected from the 3 topics.
Feedback 3 minute baseline survey for the teacher and students to be completed at the start of the lesson. Then a 3 minute post survey for students and 10 minute survey for teachers for you to feedback on how the lesson went, and if you felt there was enough teacher guidance to help you through it.
Timeframe Trial throughout the Autumn term 2018.
Consent Body image and healthy relationships – School consent form to be completed by Senior Leadership Team

Pornography – School consent form to be completed by Senior Leadership Team and parental consent forms for all participating students.
